Hershey's Kisses in Saigon
After a weird and inexplicable bout of sickness this morning, I had a big, fat, sleep and dreamed that my sisters were all dressed up and coming around the corner to meet me.
Woke up at about 3pm and stumbled out onto the busy street--really stunned and stumbled. Jetlag fog. Went to the market at the corner. In some ways, it reminds me of the department store/grocery store my mother used to take us to when we were kids--called G.E.X. Very bare bones and the noise pings and knocks around. Except at G.E.X. there was the smell of popcorn from a vendor.
But this place was like being inside a video arcade. Or more--like being inside one of the video games! Complete and utter abandon. Knocks and pings and cha-chings and ringing bells and squealing kids and P.A. announcements and muzak. One of the staffers whizzed by me--nearly collided--and just kept spinning right on down the aisle. I was standing there, a little befuddled, and noticed one of the other staffers noticing me. She was smiling at my... well, my foreignness, I guess. My befuddlement.
Anyhow, found the Hershey's Kisses, which along with the Toblerones and Milka were safely locked behind a glass door. As they should be. I guess M&M's aren't such a hot commodity because they're right out there where any Joe can come along and grab 'em. Poor M&M's.

I feel guilty as I sit here reading this with a bar of dark chocolate in my hand ... that, and a glass of milk for breakfast!
